Binary Stars

whispers of Yearning that echo
across a frozen river
The voice that spoke the language of
my Soul, and the body that walked
in step with mine
Gone, as we raced towards sunrise, I
was Alone.
Stumbling fast together, standing with
Each other's legs, we
need to stand on our own
"Sweep her off her feet"
the goal,
and she fell, and took my legs out too
Now her hand has slipped from mine, and she
apologizes for cruelty
Non-existent because
I Understand.
I Understand,
but the ache is there, my heart
Stretching, Ripping, Pulled in two,
half with her and
half on it's way where?
Not with me.
To the stars we watched together.
Tears seal my eyes shut, however
as I grope around in the dark, I give
Her a watery smile through lips
sealed against the Cry that's bursting
from my lungs
my eyes look only back now, in my memories
to a time when the Sun shone on us both
and hopes, strongly, fearfully
For that time again,
to return to holding each other
Shaky legs
but not holding each other up
It hopes
